So its been a little over a year since the last post. Lets reflect on 2011

My race season was non existent. Did a few WORS races, did a WEMS race and got horribly sick at the 40

I did build up the best FS I have ever ridden and have no desire for a new bike in 2012. So 2 Niners and I would not get rid of either.

We did help build some mighty fine new trails in the south kettle.

Had some great family times and much much less riding.

I did ride to work at least 14 time until they ripped up Hwy 83

The worst part is with all the work and family time 20 pounds crept back onto the body.

So looking at 2012

More WEMS races

Hopefully O2S and Iceman

Get ride of that 20 pounds before April

Start riding back to work a few times a week after April

Make more family rides a camping destinations

And of course build more trails and ride ride ride.

The Muir South Kettle Classic will be run on June 18, 2011. Overall the event will stay the same with 75, 50 and 25 mile events on the same wonderful trail system. This will allow for later start times making it easier and more economical to get the the venue without the need to camp or leave your house in the early early morning. More info to Follow.

I have been riding and racing mtb bikes since 1990 and those are the only frames that have ever broken, So I never had a issue with GT or Cannondale minus one GT that had the rear drop out that the der hanger pull through.

So I managed to ride into work three times this week. It feels awesome to have the cool wind in your face on the way in. I will admit you see some odd stuff at 6:00 am on the back roads. Today a lady was squatted down peeing in the ditch. I guess she had to much coffee before her walk. I just passed and said good morning and she started laughing. Yesterday was a old man picking up cans in a neon green shorts jump suit. Will see what else I can see in the coming weeks.

It really bugs me that the term Pro Choice is used as a scapegoat for such a final decision. I am in agreement its your decision to do what you want but to say it was Pro Choice just seem dishonest. Maybe the Pro Life movement should adopt the Pro Choice mantra and the other side can be Pro Death and see how that works for awhile.

Well I threw my hat in and joined in on a 13 hour ride down to take on the Cohotta. I wimped out and did the 65 miles. There was still 15000 feet of climbing, it would be a wake up call this early in the season. We pre rode a bit on Friday and knew we were not in Wisconsin anymore. Hit up the local Mexican restaurant for food and drink and then a short ride ac cross state lines for beer for after the race. With a 7:15 start we were up early packing drop off bags and watching the radar. No warm up at all and a 2mile up mountain start. I blow myself up on the start and was at the tail end of the lead group. The hit so singletrack and the pace came way down and my heart rate dropped under cardiac arrest. We hit a creek crossing a few miles in and back up we went. I again had the heart rate way way up trying to hold on. We hit the top ans I wasn't dead so more singletrack to recover up till the 65 to 100 mile split. After the split we had a group of 5 that worked really well together. Coming up to mile 27 our first rest stop Darrin B goes blowing by us on the way back. We were crushed and wondering WTF. He was 14 miles ahead of us. Well we rode the lollipop and started heading back to our aid station up another huge hill. Stopped at the aid station eat a PBJ 4 hammergels and 2 five hour energies and we where off again. Man those forest roads sucked even more on the way back. At mile 55 we turned right and we were told it was all down hill from here. Ya right, 1 mile later we hit a giant climb and the rain started. With in 5 minutes it was pouring. Full thunder and lighting all around rain so hard you could not see straight. Now we started rolling tight( a river was running through it), singletrack that was flowing. I was loving it, the cold rain had the legs coming back to life. I started passing riders walking through these sections. Another guy joined my on the mudtastic adventure. We rolled over the bridge and onto the road to the finish. It rain left like hail riding that last mile into the headwind. 6:50:08, I was done with 65 miles.

Iola

Front shift pod busted 100 feet into the race and I did 3 laps in the little ring. The legs were still really tight from Cohotta and finally felt good in the middle of the last lap. I finished middle of the pack. Felt really good to see Don smiling and yelling GOOOOOOOOOOOOO. North Kettle 6 hour is next then Wausau.

Man 1 is traveling by car, a $16,000 compact he paid for with his own money. He will be leaving Milwaukee and ending in Madison at the Dane county airport.. The car will travel at 65 miles per hour for 87 miles. The car gets 34 mile per gallon and gas is $3.00 a gallon. The State transportation boards estimate is it cost about .003 cents per 100 miles for road building and repairs for a 14 year lifetime of the road.

How long will it take to get to Madison and how much will it cost to complete the trip.

Man 2 is traveling by light rail leaving Milwaukee and ending in Madison. The man will pay $8 dollars to a taxi to get the the station. He will by a 1 way ticket on a $60,000,000 dollar train that will cost him 28 dollars for his 1 way ticket. Well the wife lost her job, no biggy in the big picture, just another speed bump this year we will get over along with the therapy issues. Since the job loss things have been a little foggy on how to get things back in motion. I skipped a few days at the gym and missed a few trails. Oh well. Tomorrow back to the Gym and riding/planning new trail Saturday/Sunday. The weight is still even or a little loss over the last 2 weeks. I need to get to Randy and get the fork and start riding more.

Man, should I not be dreaming about saving money and buying new bike stuff for next year. I have seen a ton of new cool stuff in all kinds of colors and materials. Oddly I am not at all, nothing is really busted up after doing 4 races this year and beside a brand new crappy x9 front derailleur that need changing out I am pretty much set. I did spoil myself this year with two new bikes so maybe that’s what is going on. I am totally focused right now on loosing weight and putting muscle back on. The last two years have been complete shit summers as far as riding goes. In 08 I tore my right quad at the first race and this year the broken toe/foot screwed me all year plus the steroids added 20 pounds but it did finally fix the foot. Well here’s to 2010 being a great year

So I spent a bunch of time in the treestand this weekend and there is nothing like pure silence sitting up 20 feet in a tree. You see and hear everything from small bugs to deer and stupid conversations from hikers. Well on Saturday it was quite for many hours because the connector trail was still closed. However on Sunday, not long after sunrise the bikes started rolling through pretty steady and I began to wonder why I too was not rolling along on a perfect fall day. I stayed out until about 10:00 am when I seen Ronsta roll by and could stay any longer. I went home and picked up Josh and head out for a good hike and to move my stand to a NW wind location. On the hike we found a few black orange bellied snakes, rare in wisconsin I guess. Great weekend.

So there is no need to chopping up the knees. There is plenty of scaring on the acl and mcl but that should be ok. It appears to be from a lack of riding and being overzealous this spring on the upper leg work outs. Appears the quads are pulling the knee caps up and out. Making the knee caps look grasshopper eyes I guess. Mr doc wrote me a prescription to ride my bike as of as I can and calf exercise and some PT to show me said exercises.

Ok here is my quick fat tire recap, slept in then hit up Norske Nook for breakfast and then headed back for a nap and then headed to the line 8:30 ish. Lined up in the back with Bubba, UncleJim, Doctor Dave and some others. That was a rough one, the 4 wheeler this year kept the speed down and we hit rosies field 40 wide and 4 mph. I took it up a notch and started making up ground and made it to OO in good time and had a good ride to Fire Tower. The hike up fire tower killed me. Halfway up my foot was on fire two times after I literally pulled over and removed my shoe and sock to stretch out my foot. At one stop a group of pirates made me drink some rum. After the race I found some ice bags for the foot and was just glad the dust bowl was over. Went back and showered off the pounds of dirt. Cant wait till next year.

Well the 40 is but a few days away. In hopes of keeping the foot felling ok I am skipping geneva as much fun as it alwsys is I cant take a sore wheel to a 40 mile race. I am taking the Niner out tommorow for the Ronsta ride and lapham peak. More post to come, facebook is getting short on stuff I guess, its like a new bike

Still looking for that point in the year I actually feel like training. I hope that time is coming soon. Now that the kids are in summer camp and the weather is getting nice I might start turning the pedals a little more often after therapy is over. So Saturday we loaded up the van and headed to Mt Morris for the WORS big top show. Let me state right from the get go the start was bullshit, no climbing at all just ram everyone into the singletrack and get ready to wait, nice move. Two guys went down right away and the top 20 guys just rolled away. Oh well it was still a damn good time to be out riding and doing a few wheelies for the cheering section. Overall I really enjoyed the new course layout just throw the start hill back in to spread out a bit more.

I have a set of crankbros two piece skewers for sale: cheap only disclaimer they will not stay tight no matter what. Had to stop twice in the race to make the bike shift and the brake stop rubbing.

Man, glad that is over. The 12 hours at Muir is in the books and once again it rained on a Saturday. We figured it has rained somewhat ever Saturday for the last 6 weeks. So its a pretty good bet it will rain on Saturday the rest of the year. The race started at 8 am with sloppy mud trails, but Ronsta still cracked off a quick lap and had a nice lead that he worked all the way to the finish line. The trails dried a little every hour till the end of the day when they were solid. Thanks to everyone for coming out.

Well I seen the damage from the mukwonago torando yesterday. Lucky it wasnt thursday at 7:00 pm when it went through. The major damage was one block east of Craig rd on maple and went about a mile down maple. There were plenty of snapped off trees and power poles and wire laying down. As many know that is part of the thursday night beat down. Back to working on race stuff.

Well the 12 hour race is just days away. The extended weather forecast looks good. I just purchased 20 rolls of tape 3 pounds on chalk and plenty of post and signs. Insurance is paid for and garbage cans have been ordered. All the copies have been made and placed in the clip board. The awards are coming today and hammer gel is loaded. So that leaves get gas and weed trimmer line and grass seed. Hope to see you next Saturday.

Well the home life is starting to settle down now that we seem to have 6 new family members we see everyday. Well truly its only one person per day for 4 hours everyday and 4 per day during meeting days. I must say we have seen great leaps made already in some of Josh's "ways" he lives day to day. The hardest part is for Dad and Mom to just stay out of things most of the time. its not easy but it is worth it. We tried for many days to keep the house clean and make all the meals the day before and get everything done everyday before the therapist would show up. We finally gave up on that so we can have at least 15 minutes of calm back everyday. So now that we have or lives on the new schedule things seem to be going a little better. Only 10 more months to go.

So today was the 2 time in a weeks time I squatted and pressed the same weight with both legs. I never would have thought it would take this long. Well it felt that way for a couple minutes today. We started into the new section of orange trail today and it was 1999 all over again. We mark that same area for a possible Orange/Blue reroute. I know they dropped it to a orange only reroute but I will see what I can do about that. I know I have ridden that fire lane section for long enough. Well the next two weekends are out with real work so sometime in April, I will bring out some food and drink to feed everyone after a hard trail day

Can someone help Mr Obama with the notes on the empty promises he made for 16 month. Not that they had this story on any shit media here in the states. There was a piece on the BBC this morning about boyrocks new health care ideas. He wants to force private insurance to pay the medical bills of reservist and nation guard troops if they are hurt in combat. Yes your private insurance needs to pay, what a great leader we have already throwing the great men and women who serve under the bus to get what he wants. It would be nice if there was a newspaper editor alive that didn't have his head up boyrocks ass that would print this little plan. Anyone get the felling he wants insurance rates to skyrocket so more than 27% of Americans wants socialised medicine. No biggy boyrock has a busy schedule of talk shows and basketball the next couple a days.

Not sure what happened this weekend. We went to do trail work late and got lost from the group. The kids and I hiked about 4 miles. It will take a while for that ice in the woods to clear. No not snow, inches of pure ice on the trail from the rains last week. Then we had a party suturday night and a shower and party Sunday and I didnt ride at all this weekend. So at 5:45 am I ripped the bike off the trainer and mounted a new tire and it will be ridden tonight.

Well its been a while since the last post but it been crazy busy in the Dretzka family lately. We now know Josh's therapy will start the first week of April. So that means we will be broke and in home intensive therapy will be 4 hours per day after school and weekends for one year. I wont be seen to often for the next year. Its really a small thing to give up to help Josh.

Well a couple weeks ago we went down to Columbia Mo for a weekend away. This is a really nice town with a ton of nice stuff to do. We will be heading bask down this summer as well. The first pic is of Devils Ice box cave opening. We went in a ways but it got to dark, next trip we are bringing flashlights and boots. The next pic is of course the arch, we took the kids up 630 feet in the egg. The last pic is a 400 year old bur oar where Louis and Clark set up camp and had their way with sujackawea

I got new a wheel set for the road bike and swapped out the cables and tape she is all ready for summer. The mountain bike is all ready to go as well. I am still waiting on the new fox for the front but its all together with the Reba for now. So if anyone is looking for a reba G2 with a 51mm offset let me know.

Now if the damn weather could just get above freezing I could skip a few spin classes at the gym.

Mr Obama when you decide to give MPS money for new building make one a prison. What is wrong with the liberals that run this pile of crap school system. There was yet another fight at Bradley Tech; once a great Milwaukee school.
Police ended up in the fight to break up hundreds of students. One officer was punched in the face by a female student. Guess how the ball less turds at MPS responded to the news. " We understand the severity of the fight however we still had hundreds of kids that stayed in class during the ordeal and no weapons were found." Holy shit how else could you skate around the issue of hundreds of kids fighting in school and dozens of Police officer called to the seen with 17 arrest made and 54 students ticketed. Did you also know MPS prides itself in having 4 College preparatory High Schools. So I guess the other schools are State Prison preparatory, Federal Prison prep and plain old in and out of the City/County Jail Preparatory.

So I have been going to the gym, doing a bunch of aerobic as well as weight training for the last couple of weeks. During that time I cut back huge on my portions and on red meat and have increased by fruit and vegetables intake like I am a vegetarian. So I step on the scale for the first time in three weeks I gained 5 f'ing pounds. What how the hell does that happen. Let me also tell you I was sicker that shat and one eat about 20 club crackers in three days. The trainer told me a lot time being on a cycle of antibiotics will make you gain weight, that your digestive systems get all out of whack and holds more fats and water. I hope she is right because right now this really sucks. I am starting to feel alot better so I guess something is working.

Man, I would hate to be in DC today with the crowds. I would love to be there to witness the whole think if I could get out after. They listed a few stats that are a bit scary. First, they estimate there will be 1 potra potty per 5400 participants. Once they are "full" and are inside the the crowds they will be locked. Only the ones lining the perimeter will be emptied and cared fro. They said it would be impossible to get the trucks into the crowds. The reflection pool will be thawed by lunch time. They believe it will take 9 hours for everyone to exit the mall area and all traffic will be halted till 10pm from the mall to the metra station 13 blocks away. They think the metra will be backed up till 2 am Wednesday. Some of you may already know that our son Josh has autism. At first it was a real heart breaker but after a while you learn to step up and take it on and try to just control any little piece of what is going on with his thoughts. I get most frustrated when you think you have something just about sorted out and bam you start all over again with the same task. Then I remember autism is something we can live with which is much better that some other aliments that can take a child away.
Well since no Autism treatments are covered by any insurance company in this country there is a program through medicare that funds a great portion of intensive in home therapy. Well after more that 2 years of waiting on that list for the medicare funding there is a open slot available. Here is my struggle right now. To be in the program you must complete 20 hours a week of in home therapy. Well Josh is at school till 4:00 ever day so that would leave about 3 hours per night and then take up most of Saturday. I know it should be great news that we finally have the chance to get in home help. However some of you have seen Josh every summer and know he has come along way from the non verbal no way looking at you child that always wanted to be by himself . Well today you can't stop him from looking or talking to you about a million things. You may only understand about 75% of what he is saying. So now I am thinking it would be a bad thing to take Josh's life away to force him to spend every night in the house. It amazing the amount of stuff we do that he would not be able to do anymore from bike rides to fishing after school. Any after school activity would be put on hold for more than a year and more that likely nothing more on Saturdays. I guess I really need more info on a plan to get 20 hours a week in.

Update: The diet and workout plan was put on hold with a horrible cold that settled in the body and caused a lot on pain and the need to take a lot of drugs to drive out. Back to the gym Monday.

So this morning was one solid week in the gym. Got the whole work up with the personal trainer and a good plan so far to start working on a solid 3 month plan.

First its all about working on leg strength to trying to work out the horrible imbalance. I found out last year injury is sill very much with me. I can press 3 times as much with my left leg over the right. She said that is a huge imbalance and effects every aspect of my riding. Then the next thing, this maybe a shocker, core development with high repetition not strength. She said I have plenty of core strength but I am carrying a few extra pounds. I asked if she needed schooling to tell me that. She did tell is was 30 pound over weight and my bmi was 22 and that is a good sign that the weight should come off. All things to work on this winter. I am 100% committed to this plan to be successful for the race season and just getting healthy again. Well one last night tonight of eating and drinking whatever. Friday I start a eating journal, nothing to crazy just what and how much. No more 5 egg omelets with ham bacon and cheese. Hope everyone has a great and safe New Year in 2009

Well its all over except taking out the trashing and taking care of the pile of boxes that need breaking down. We really scaled back this year, not because the next Apocalypse is on the horizon but because we just got rid of a ton of toys. We took a truck load of toys to goodwill and one to the local shelter in Elkhorn and they still have plenty to play with. We did break down and get Wii for the kids this year. We had both sets of grandparents over last night for Wii Sports and carnival games and it was a blast. We also got the Rapala fishing game and a Cars racing game and Mario Cart and Crazy golf and one other I can't remember. Shelly got a shinny new Yamaha Guitar to learn to play. Its a really trip trying to buy music equipment from a store that hires all the anti social high school band kids to work. I hate to say it but I didn't get one bike thing this year, not a one. I did get a new treestand and a new ice augur and some clothing of course plus a few other things. Hope everyone had a safe and happy holidays.

So today I started my voyage with plenty of stops ahead of me and the first one was in Hales Corners. Then I stopped in Caledonia before heading further south to Kenosha then over to Lake Geneva then back north to Spring Prairie for a short visit. I jumped back in the car and headed west over to East Troy and then a quick stop in Palmyra and it was time for lunch. For the first time I took Hwy E from Palmyra to Summit for another stop.( this road will be added to my long ride nice long big hills)Then I took one left turn on Hwy E to Johnson Creek. I took the back roads the whole way out to the Creek today, no freeways.

Here are a couple of things you notice on back country roads.

Thank a hunter because their license money has brought back the turkey like you can't imagine. It seems bails of hay are still the best way to insulate the outer walls of your home. A foot of snow makes every ones yard seem more peaceful, even the junk yard on hwy 20. You can see the deer tracks on the edges of every field. Lots of folks are snowmobiling even though the trail closed signs are still out. Some of the lakes have ice thick enough to fish on already. Every town has a bar open before lunch time and a gas station that sells beer. Seen two peasants and the dead sheep was still in the field and had a few crows pecking at it. Yes a dead sheep. Last week we stopped at a cell site fiber regeneration hut and talked to the farmer whose land it is on, wolves killed one of his sheep. The DNR confirmed the kill and he filled out some paper work and the State will reimburse him for his loss. Yes, two wolves in Concord, Wisconsin killed a sheep. That's about 15 miles east of Johnson Creek on Hwy E. I am not sure the fact that their is a known wolf pack 20 miles from Waukesha is an eye opener to anyone but it is to me. That pack will double in size every year with the amount of food in this part of the state. Guard your dogs and small children. The farmer was told two of the wolves have collars on and they traveled down from the portage area 3 years ago and established the pack west of Oconomowoc but has since moved west and south.

I grabbed a Carmel apple at the Pine Cone and headed back towards home. Oh, I was checking the temperatures in all the building to see if the heaters were working. Somebody has to do it.

Well it appears the crud is going around. It‘s my turn this week it seems like, it a hell of a way to take off some of the thanksgiving extras I put on. On the home front it is go time on the play for Shelly and the kids. They did a full run through on Wednesday night and did two performances today for the high school. They all have dual rolls in the 2008 production of The Nutcracker by the Mukwonago players. Josh is a toy soldier and the North wind and Cole is a Mouse and the North Wind. Sounds like my bike frame has made it to the project one painters booth and should be completed shortly. I can’t wait to slap it all back together. First family Christmas party of the year this weekend I hope I feel a little better. I guess that why god lets fruit rot or should a say let corn turn into mash and boil.

Well the hunt is over and we spent a day in the garage cuttin deer. We now have 18 bags of steaks in the freezer and I ground up 20 pounds of venibuger. I also cut 30 pounds into chunks that is going to be made into brats. Sounds like the hunt numbers are way down. That happens when the season falls at the end of the rut when the bucks will pin down any does in heat. The numbers are always down when this happens but this year seem real bad. Well after spending 20 hours in the tree this year it is very clear that wolves in Wisconsin will be a huge problem in the near future. We hunt just south of Babcock and I seen more wolves that deer this year. Hunting is still very relaxing sitting in silence with no plans to really do anything.

The bikes are full of sawdust today, tomorrow they go on the trainers. Let the off season begin.

Well the best thing about a good frost is it turns the wild blackberries about as sweet as sweet can be. Once there is a heavy frost the plant pumps as much sugar as it can to the left over fruit to crystallize so it drops to the ground full of seeds. Well if you get lucky like we did tonight you find soft black berries that will stain your hands and keep a smile on your face even through the pain of the thorns in the arm. Now I just have to go to Culver's for some vanilla custard and I will be all set.

Cole did 2 laps this year and passed everyone but the big kid. He is hooked. Josh not so much this year.

Finally the Wors season for 2008 is over. I missed more than a few races with the torn quad but I really didn't miss anything it seemed. This winter I am going to buy a new road bike and do some training in Missouri in march and April and some spring road races. Oh and I will be joining the gym November 1st and going on a strict diet. There will be no Clyde race for me in 2009 I promise. Sheboygan was just OK this year. I really didn't care for the course as much as previous events. It really sucked that the equalizer money was gone before I climbed it on lap one. I did manage to pull out 10 bucks from the holeshot money starting 4 rows back. Man call ups make a huge difference. On the first lap I got passed by Jeff from Hayes and stuck myself to his wheel for the next two laps until the log jump the last time. I came in at a weird angle and landed kkicked out little and the rear tire came lose. Man the disk brake make a lot of noise when not in the right way. I had to stop and fix that right away. Russell's work needs a spoke wrench and some love plus a new set of pads and a rotor. Then I tried to make up some time to catch up to jeff and over short a corner at the river and ended up in the trees not the river amd then ran into the tree in the last turn in the rocky creek bed. That was it I was happy to sit in for 2nd. That was until a day of guy we just happen to pass on the start of lap three came around me just before the bridge. That is me pointing him out to the score keepers. Asking how we passed him on lap 3 and he is finishing all of the sudden. Well it turns out talking to more that a few spectators they 2 guys started in their age group. They where wondering how the 2 guys got that far ahead on the first lap. Well we all filled a protest. The first guy admitted he started in the wrong group and the other guy, who knows but he got 2nd again.

I felt bad for the GM workers in Janesville for about one day. That was until this morning listening to the radio and the had on someone that has worked with the UAW contract. Here are some things the media isn't telling you. Every workers with more that 5 years of "time in" will get 39 month pay at 85% of their wages and keep their health care for that time . When that 39 month runs out they also will get 60% percent of their pay as long as they stay a full time student training for a new career. Wait it gets better. They have the option to "bump" other workers out of jobs in other GM locations, if they don't bump another workers and accept the layoff they can collect Unemployment Insurance from the state as well. You ask why, because taking the layoff prevents someone else from losing their income/job. So if you play your cards right. You can collect 85% of your wage plus $335 a week for 39 weeks. Then when the unemployment runs out you get the 85% of your wages for the next two year. Then towards the end of that two years you sign up for class at a 4 years college and get your 60% pay for a guarantied 60 months period and you have had health care the whole time.

Wow I hope no one every wonders why Toyota and Honda at killing the middle three.

Area 47, Barbwire and Horseapples

Well for the first time all year I felt like I was able to put together a pretty good race. The leg did get a little soft on a soft sandy climb when the rider in front stepped off and I had to give to all I had to get around. Going into the final lap on the west side of the highway I gave it hell one more time in the open field and could not shake Hauser I knew I was going to have to give up the lead and follow Hauser and hope we would hit some more traffic. I have to give him big props, anytime I would throw down a big attack on a climb or in any section I hard him shifting and jumping right on. Way to go on the overall this year.
I am going on record and saying this was the worst course ever for passing. Besides the two hills in the back there was no where to pass in the singletrack. As I passed through the cattle chunnel under the highway Hauser was just at the top of the hill within striking distance. As I came over the top he was standing in a sprint to pass some riders. I know it was game over and was happy to be rolling in 2nd at a fast course. Next up I will be running the race at the 12 Hour.

longest ride yet

Yep this year it took me more time to complete the 40 miles from Hayward to Cable then ever before. It was a strange feeling to finish in 3:16 and not really care about it.

The day started at 5:15 am in Hayward, placing the bikes 5 rows back. Went back to the hotel for a quick nap and breakfast and a planned to return back to Hayward by 9:00 am.

The cannon blew off and we are rolling. This year I put the bike right on the yellow line and it paid off pretty well when the road narrowed up. I moved up a bunch of spots even before we made the left turn at the fountain. Then bang bikes were flying all around and the lady on a tandem was sliding to the curb and crawled into the grass. We all came to a stop in the middle of the road.

Then the bomb was dropped. The guy on the front of the tandem told the lady "get the f*&k back on the bike now" as he was standing in the middle of the road yet and plenty of riders could not believe what he said. I heard later that the bike was laying in the grass after everyone rolled through. Wonder if she walked to the divorce attorney in town. Well we made it to the next right turn then past Wal mart and the pace picked way up. Rosie's field was pretty tame this year. I held the good lines as long I could and just kept grabbing a faster wheel. It started to rain and it felt kinda good for the first 15 minutes.

Before I knew it we where rolling across 00 and I felt great. As we crossed 00 it was apparent we where leaving the nice ski trails and the mud and puddles were appearing more frequent. I just stayed glued to a wheel and stayed out of the soft grass. Somewhere about 17 to go the leg started to give me issues. It couldn't keep a good cadence, the smooth pedal strokes were going away. On a long climb at the 15 to go the leg cramped solid from my quad to my groin, my race at the 2008 40 was over. I stopped and ate some bloks and took a few drinks of heed. In what seem like 1 minute I watch 200 riders go by maybe more.

I stood there and scrolled through the buttons, I was 26.4 miles in, my14.9 mph average was over and a 183 bpm average was going to go way down. I rode my way to firetower and was starting to get cold, the engine was shut down and not creating any heat. At the top of fire tower I had a 1/2 brat and warmed up a little by the fire before rolling on the arm warmers and jumping back on. The leg was feeling a little better until the next birkie section where I ended up walking the last three hills. I seen bubba and kyle go buy. I just rode it out, stopped and help a few riders with chain suck and I just looked around. There was no thrill like most years when seeing the last water station and preparing for an attack on the last road section. I just stopped and filled a bottle and rolled on.

Right after the stop is the moment that slapped my out of the funk I have been in all year with the injury. Just as we left the road for the last time with 3 miles to go I was pulling 3 guys along. It was pretty easy to tell from the conversation they were together. The one guy asked if he could pull, of coarse I pulled over and he did some pacing and the other two pulled along side and we were talking. The guy next to me asked if I was happy about my finish. I said. hell know this will be my worst finish ever in 14 years. He didn't say anything till the 1 mile to go. He said he was sorry for asking, just that he was happy he would take at least an hour off last years time. That they all would, for 4 years now they have all ridden together and pushed each other. Wow what a kick to the jewels. I apologized for sounding arrogant and congratulated them on a major improvement and then pushed them through the last couple of hills. I was going to go around them at the top of the last climb to the finish but just couldn't do it until they went high and got caught behind some other riders.

While sitting in a chair getting rained on at the finish I wondered why we ride so much to prepare for any race that will rip your heart out if you have a bad day. Should we ride for fun and bask in the glory of having a strong finish like those three guys did that, I bet you will never see them cross the finish line with their heads down like so many did at the great event.

Saturday spent the day in Communist Madison for a great football game. Had fun after at a bar when asking at least a dozen Obama supporters the 1 biggest reason they are voting for The prodigal son. They all said the same tired ass line, he will change things.

Sunday was Dylan's Walk for Autism down at the Summerfest grounds. We were able to raise 1600 in donations.

So as good corporate stewards we spent some time at a local charity helping stuff and handout school bags that we had collected over the past month. Well once again it was proven there is no shame in being a complete douche bag living the Obamas dream of being taking care of. About 40 complete pieces of shit as parents that should get the shit kicked out of them for being so fucking worthless showed up. My apologies to the mother of 3 doing her best for there families we talked to today, she was just looking for help to get empty bags.

They brought in mothers or father 5 at a time. The first group every mother had 500 bucks worth of clothing and200 dollar shoes and the kids were in rags and all ran to the free cookies and juice. Guess what, the next three groups all the same, new Jordan's every piece of high end clothing you can think of and a MR T starter kit and rings galore.

Then we had a the douche bag of the year on her I phone talking about getting together this weekend even if the kids stay home therselves. The two kids killed a plate a cookies and ask for more. So I get a call at work this morning from a vendor, no not randy. It turns out a CEO of a company here wants to have a tie type hicap line installed in his mothers home in Hobunk Mississippi. He only has some of the info needed to start the order. I am kinda ignoring the guy, he is asking some really odd questions. So I finally stop him and ask why the game of 21 question. Well it turns out the office he works in only has 500 working lines and only 1 other hi capacity line to a cell tower. I told him our A end office on this order has 3 switches and 210,000 lines and thousands of hicap line. He said that impossible I am lying and hung up. I hope the CEO has a assistant to get him a wireless card.

Well to say work has been busy is an understatement that the obama camp would make. We are turning up 40 gig circuits daily to feed the I phone craze all over the Midwest. This is needed now that you freaks are completing over 1,000,000 text messages a day in Milwaukee/ Waukesha and 6 .5 million between Wisconsin and the Chicago market. That's a 30% increase with the new I phone. Hate to say it but I have been off the bike. I did build a new platform bed so that took up some time. So the next race will be the 40 and the last two wors races.

All the permits and Insurance is settled for the 12 hour race Oct 4 so that a big relief. The Raffle stuff is coming together well this year. We are going with a long lap for everyone so far unless something changes.

Well I jump back on the bike after a long layoff. In the past 12 week I rode twice and raced three time. So I went to the beat down on Thursday and stay with the group for 8 miles. After that I rode my own pace and did the whole route. I finished about 30 minutes after everyone but I was not going to cut it short and was not going to inflect and more pain that would slow me down even more. So many miles will be cover on the rode until the 40. I think I will skip the rest of the WORS season to heal up all the way.

So I spent the day filling out forms for a direct report of mine that had an accident today. He was on the freeway and had his arm out the window resting against the outside of the door and his hand was holding onto the mirrors arm. No it was not a stone that hit him it was a S hook from a bungee cord ripped into his flesh and broke his arm. Seems it was kicked up by another car and pierced his arm mid forearm and nearly came out the other side. This was not a clean cut and the s hook was a tad rusty. So 80 plus stitches later and a broken arm without a cast he was sent home with his wife. They want to make sure a infection doesn't set in so no cast yet. Now I get to find a certified bio hazard cleaner to sterilized the front to the van.

I don't think its possible to pack anymore into one weekend. Camping swimming biking fireworks bluejays at 4 am and all kinds of bugs and different brews. We camped at Lake Wissota for a few nights in prep for the firecracker. We pre rode saturday and the leg was ok for the worst cit youth course ever and a sport lap. Turns out they changed the CY course later that night but Josh was still a tad spooked from the pre ride. Sunday it started to pour 20 minutes before the sport start but it on lasted 10 minutes. It made for a perfect course. Just for a good photo op I cleaned out the carbon and pulled the group into the first corner. I sat up about a 1/2 mile in and nobody wanted to pull until a 50+ guy had enough of me sitting up a slowing down. Bubba got around me towards the end of the 1st lap and I tried to stay with him. Making sure to stay in the comfort zone and not crap the leg and to stay with someone is not easy. I could see bubba here and there all the way into the field section on the last lap. I had nothing to put out in the field and lost a lot of time. Over all I think staying off the bike for the 3 weeks was a great thing for the leg, so I am going to give it a few more weeks off.

So its good to know I have a 3G wireless card that will put out sweet dial up speed in a state park in the middle of no where, I am blazing at 34k right now. A few more things

Well when we pulled into the park last night and hit the button, holy sheep shit bat man we averaged 28. Maybe we should let Russ Fungalgold pull his head out of his ass to let America know again the mileage difference is such a small percentage overall.

Well I have not even touched the bike as of lste. The leg is starting to give back a little. Its not so tight in the mornings anymore. I am getting a lot of the to do list items cleared while not riding, so that is a plus. We will be at Eau Claire camping for the 4th. Not sure if I will race or not yet. Maybe I will see how it responds after 3 weeks off the bike.

Gracie did not hesitate one bit before jumping in the lake at Hartman Creek State Park. Make a note to stay here for the 09 Subaru Cup. Its super nice and clean and only 20 miles from the course.

Yep us big guys like someplace to cook food for fathers day. Now that I have cooked on it, the Weber is much nicer than the last generic grill we had.

Well the day before I suffered during the climbs at Mt Morris. Then after seeing the full moon out in the field I was almost blinded. I was forewarned by Rick but still did not shield my eyes in time.

After the race the leg was fine. The next day the leg was fine for a short ride. However Monday the leg was junk again I could hardly pedal. I have made the decision to take July off completely to let it heal. Just easy spins with the kids.

So first thing after a 4 am fiber throw we hit Webb's on state st in the village. I ended up getting kicked out by the counter help. I really didn't do anything wrong.

There was a wacko asking us about or thoughts on following the pro life agenda. After about 2 minutes I had enough of her ranting with the guy with 8 teeth and a flannel. I asked her how many kids she had. She replied they were blessed with one wonderful daughter so far. Then I asked if it was her choice to take birth control pills or use a condom to prevent more children up to this point. She said nothing for about 10 seconds she just stared at me so I asked her again. What was her preferred choice to prevent life from happening? Well her head spend around like six times and she started screaming something about her money situation and housing and some other crap in tongues. Turns out her friends worked there and they ask me to leave or they were calling the cops. We left and went to Denny's on north ave for some eggs and corn beef and hash.

As we were leaving there I seen the funniest shit pile car in a long time. I took a pic but can't get my phone to send it in a email. Someone took bubba's old van and removed the front clip and created a trailer out of it. On the back there were the chrome Lady's but they were very plump Lady's.

Came home rode 10 miles just to keep things loose.

Man its good to be back at work to relax after a long weekend. What I really need is to have two assistance at home just like here at work. That’s not going to happen any time soon so I can quit dreaming now.

Well it was a good weekend with the extra day tagged on. Thanks to everyone that gave there lives to let us live free.

Well Friday I snuck out to the Kettles and crashed hard as hell on the connector in the section of Horse rider’s camp. Got a pinch flat in some rocks and went over the bars in the next corner and flew into some trees. I figured that the right legs was doing great, I might as well smash the left hip on someone. It really sucks trying to change out a tube and swat at the mosquitoes and try to squat without major pain in the hip. Got back home for dinner and checked the bike out for the 6 hour the next day. That is Karma kicking in for getting in a friday afternoon ride.

Woke up at 4 am Saturday and the hip did not like me at all. I got up and took some real pain killers and went back to bed. Woke up again around 9:00 and the hip was still sore. Got up, ate and unloaded the truck. The New Fane race was a no go since the steps were more than enough to make it hurt. Took it easy rest of the day with some house cleaning and killed a few weeds with some spray.

Sunday morning the hip was feeling better so I jumped on the bike and made it about 2 miles before I turned around and headed back. Spend a bunch of time outside with the family. Later in the day I took a couple of hours and opened up the camper and got it ready for Wausau this weekend. Then later I worked up the energy to cut the grass in the front. Then we grilled out some fresh sweet corn and chicken. Took some more painkillers and went to bed early.

Monday I woke up early and made it about 10 miles before I turned for home. Then I took the dog for a walk and started some yard work. Then we had friends over early in the afternoon and spent the rest of the day on the patio with plenty of food and adult beverages, blended and bottled.

1st win of the year - early

Yep I had my 1st age group win of the year at Geneva. I am going to chock about 80% of it up to luck. Lucky after the first lap I hit the slower riders in the open sections and could motor past them and keep a high pace in the big ring in the singletrack. I was lucky to have the 50 -54 winner in front of me for the first two laps to focus and chase. Thank you Ron K. I did make a huge mistake on lap 2 and tried to stay with him on the broken rake climb and it sent the leg into spasms. I coasted through the next section and went down to the granny for the start of lap three. I will confess I have not spent that much time in granny for that long in years. Then on lap 3 I was felling good about a 2nd or 3rd place finish. Then as I turned into the flat to stairway I took all 5 shoots of hammergel and some water. At the hill climb into the rock garden I seen Jeff 15 feet ahead I started thinking about how long to be his shadow and were to attck him. Bad luck happened as he dropped down into the wash out after the rock garden it looked like he locked up the rear tire and he was going down. He said he was ok as I went but his jersey was tore up. I seen a glimpse of Bubba so I dropped the hammer and made it hurt. I was also lucky that Bubba was running Ringle scewers and I had Salsa's. Props to Bubba for passing a whole lot of riders to get back on the boxes. Man watch out in 2 weeks at Warsaw the fat guys will be flying out there.
